Tony Oursler
Tony Oursler, born 1957 in New York, lives and works in New York. Best known for his sly, often humorous video projections, Tony Oursler plumbs popular and punk culture for the twisted icons that structure our collective unconscious and the ideology of our time. Working in installations, video, sculpture, and a variety of mixed media, Oursler´s work delves deeply into the question of how the twinned forces of sex and violence, gender and power, function in our culture. In the two Way of All Flesh projections, Oursler enlarges to epic proportions the microcosmic worlds of a bee gathering pollen and earthworms churning soil. The dramatic shift in scale forces the viewer to take notice of two of the frenetic activities which comprise the essential, unceasing industry of nature.
